This book contains four collection of plates, the first is an exquisite look at the commerce palace in Lyon giving an extensive, detailed, and remarkable look at the beautiful building, there are 29 high-quality black and white plates in this section; next come 27 plates representing a collection of the best plates from Krafft's "Homes and Hotels in Paris", there are 12 plates from "Designs of Wrought Iron Work" by F. de Cuvillies and a further eighteen miscellaneous plates from various artists; combined these plate make a very handsome an intersting collection. This book has been professionally rebound in textured brown and black cloth boards, original red leather spine labels with gitl titling and decoration re-attached, separate title pages and indexes for the Monographie du Palais and the other works (the next three are combined in one index), tiny gilt bookseller's plate on back pastedown. Edges and corners slightly worn, bottom inch of one spine label is missing, front endpapers and title page slightly wrinkled, one inch closed tear on page 17, very faint crease in top corner of some plates in the later half of the book, volume is tightly bound, in part II vol. 4 26-28 are listed in the index but they are not included in this volume (there is a pencil mark around these numbers in the index). Folio 12"-15" tall. Unpaginated (the book is 1.5 inches thick). An interesting combination of designs makes this a very enjoyable display. | $75.00 |

An exquisite collection of unbound plate black and white etchings displaying the wonderful styles that constituted fifteenth to eighteenth century French architecture; this first volume contains a complete set of 4 to 26 plates on each of the following masterpieces: Chateau de Bussy-Rabutin, Palais Archiepiscopal de sens, Chateau de Sully en Bourgogne, Hotel de Vogue a Dijon, Maison a Arcueil, and the Chateau de Tanlay. The collection begins with a 56 page text introduction to the plates outlining their history and design, in this section every four or eight pages (varies) are bound together but separate from the rest of the text, the text is of fine print quality, this section also contains a few in-text black and white etchings; next come a collection of 84 large plates with well-styled captions and bordering, there is a list of monographs published in all four volumes. This volume still has its back folio cover, it is black quarter cloth on a black and white marbled board. The edges of the pages (earlier section of the text) are fairly worn with several small closed tears around the edges of a few pages, some small dotted foxing marks on the pages, a few of the pages have been slightly darkened. As for the plates, their corners and edges have some wear but it is not as serious as on the pages and there are no tears, the edges of the plates have been slightly browned, dotted foxing marks have affected several of the plates in various degrees however, other than about a dozen plates, the illustrations are not badly affected; plate 19 of the Chateau de Tanlay has large damp stain damage on top half, three other plates of the same building have smaller damp stain marks around their edges. The back cover has worn edges and corners, small scratch markings, and the inside has been browned. Elephant Folio 15"-25" tall. Overall, a beautiful and complete collection that has a wonderful classic book style feel and is difficult to find; stunning plates. | $350.00 |

An exquisite collection of unbound plate black and white etchings displaying the wonderful styles that constituted fifteenth to eighteenth century French architecture; this fourth volume contains 4 to 14 plates on each of the following masterpieces: Maison a Chartres, Chateau de la Ferte-sous-Jouarre, Ancien Hotel D'Ecoville, Maisons a Rouen, Chateau de Joigny, Chateau de Beaumesnil, Chateau d'Arnay-le-Duc, Palais de Justice de Dijon, and Chateau de Martainville (missing from the collection are the 10 plates of Chateau d'Ancy-le-Franc).The collection begins with a 114 page text introduction to the plates outlining their history and design, in this section every four pages are bound together but separate from the rest of the text, the text is of fine print quality, this section also contains a few in-text black and white etchings; next come a collection of 64 large plates with well-styled captions and bordering. The edges of the pages (earlier section of the text) are fairly worn with several small closed tears around the edges of a few pages, some dotted foxing marks on the pages, pages 109-113 have a large crease at the bottom left corner, title page has been slightly darkened. As for the plates, their corners and edges have some wear but it is not as serious as on the pages and there are no tears, the edges of the plates have been slightly browned, dotted foxing marks have affected several of the plates in various degrees however, other than five to ten plates, the illustrations are not badly affected. Title translates to "Palace Architecture of Northern Italy and Tuscany from the 13th through 18th century"; subtitled "mit Unterstutzung des Kgl. Preuss. Ministeriums fur Handel und Offentliche Arbeiten"; collection of plates professionally bound into a very large volume. This exquisite large plate collection brings the splendour of the region to life with gorgeous high-quality photographs and detailed design sketches; includes masterpieces from Bologna, Ferrara, Modena, Piacenza, Cremona, Pavia, Brescia, Bergamo, Mailand, and Olympic host Turin, a region demonstrating Italian Rennaissance styles with some northern Germanic influences. Brown half-leather on marbelled boards, spine is detached and tucked inside but it is quite gorgeous and has gilt a title and decorations as well as five raised bands, gray endpapers, forward by Albrecht Haupt, next comes a German-text introduction to the cities and works displayed with references to the plates, this section of the text contains numerous black and white illustrations; there is a list of the plates, then come 101 black and white plates, the sketches have been pressed onto the page creating a blind-stamp-border-like affect, the photograph plates have a black border, all plates have titles and captions the plates themsevles are absolutely stunning. Edges and corners slightly worn, some minor shelf wear on the boards but they are in good condition considering the age, as noted the spine is detached and tucked inside, the spine has caused some browning on the front endpapers, other than light browning around the edges and faint fingerprint markings on a few of the plates, the plates are in very good condition, clean and bright, and are tightly bound. Elephant Folio 15"-25" tall. Pages are not numbered but this is a very large and heavy book (three inches thick). A very handsome collection of plates, stupenda! | $350.00 |
