Small area at lower end of spine sunned, otherwise book appears to be without flaws. Dust jacket, which is price-clipped, has light edge wear and a closed 2.5" tear to bottom front edge, spine is slightly sunned, but is bright and clean. This very handsome book has 271 pages.

The best children's stories of Ottilie Wildermuth, selected by her daughter Adelheid Wildemuth. Beautiful colour pictiorial cover (paste-down illustration on front board that covers the entire board), burgundy cloth spine, charming full colour endpapers of children and elves, four colour plates, nine two-tone illustrations throughout text, and illuminated first letters at chapter beginnings. Title page is dated 1890 in roman numerals, remnant (approximately two thirds of the front) of dust jacket, which has the same illustration as the front board but in brown tones, is tucked into book. Corners and edges somewhat worn, back cover has shelf wear, front endpaper is split 2-3 cm at top and bottom of gutter, one of the colour plates has a 5m repaired tear (no tape), and spine is cracked at page 18. Clean inside, a very handsome book. In German srcipt.

The story, told in rhyme and set in the Engadine Mountains of Switzerland, tells the story of a little boy, Ursli, and of the adventure he has when he decides that he is old enough to carry a big bell for the first time in the Spring Festival procession. Grey boards with red titling, red cloth spine, full-page colour illustrations throughout. Spine ends have light wear, edges of covers slightly sunned, a tiny spot on front board, otherwise this charming book is in great shape. Unpaginated.
